Policy/Program Purpose

 

P.E.I. Home Care Support is a program that provides asssessment, asssistance, support, care and care planning to individuals in the community who would otherwise not be able to stay at home or return to their home independantly.

Benefits and Services

 

To asssist people who might otherwise not be able to remain at home independantly. Home Care services include nursing, personal care, respite, community support, environmental support, occupational therapy and/ or adult protection. Additional services may be accessed based on need, from regional resources.

Residents of P.E.I. who are eligible for a Provincial Health Card #, and who have asssessed needs that can best be met through Home Care Support services. All Island residents with special/chronic care needs; the majority of these clients are 65 and older.

Other Eligibility Criteria

 

NAAssessment identifies who is elligible and requires service. Income testing applies only to home or environmental support. Up to 40% of these clients would not pay based on minimum income and assessed need (i.e palliative care) There is no income testing for nursing, community support, or Occupational Therapy. There is no asset test for any Home Care services
