SMALL THOUGHTFUL GESTURES: TAKING CARE
OF OUR PARENT(S)
- by P. Randall
Just one little act of kindness could make
a parent’s day…
1. Telephone just to say ‘good morning’
2. Send a postcard from your home city or business trip
3. Contact the hairdresser/barber and treat the next visit
4. Pop in early for dinner and bring a pizza or chicken pieces
5. Suggest going for an hour drive on a weekend afternoon
6. Enjoy an ice-cream cone together
7. Send a small plant or flowers or a shrub with a personal note
8. Sit and go through a family album together
9. Diagram the family tree and ask questions
10. Check the home for safety and try out a new piece of equipment
11. Offer to go and visit an old friend together
12. Don’t interrupt a story being told once again
13. Ask for an opinion and be attentive
14. Take a minute, eliminate the phrase “I’m too busy”
15. Snip an interesting news clipping and pop it in the mail
16. Extend an invitation to go to a special event in the area
17. Encourage if seeming despondent
18. Ask about old times and experiences and memories
19. Pick up a favorite movie video and spend an evening
20. Listen and laugh often together
