Canada's Aging Population

Canada's Aging Population was prepared for the Second World Assembly on Ageing, a conference organized by the UN, held from April 8 to 12, 2002. This document is intended to provide an overview of population aging in Canada and of the major issues that must be addressed as both the number and the proportion of seniors increase in Canadian society. It sets the stage for Canada's participation in the event.

CANADIAN RETIREMENT INCOME CALCULATOR Plan Your Retirement Today!

An excellent tool for glimpsing one's retirement future-this tool allows all of us as Canadians to figure out what will be there from government sources and how much more we might need for our retirement.

The Government of Canada has developed this calculator to help you plan for retirement. The calculator takes you step by step through an estimate of the ongoing income you may receive throughout your retirement from:
  • Old Age Security (OAS);
  • Canada Pension Plan (CPP) or Quebec Pension Plan (QPP);
  • Employer pension(s);
  • Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSPs); and
  • Other sources of ongoing income.
The Old Age Security program and the Canada Pension Plan (or Quebec Pension Plan) provide a modest secure base on which to build your private savings. The calculator helps you assess your personal financial situation and helps you decide which steps to take to reach your retirement goals. http://www.hrsdc.gc.ca
